You would be surprised at the large animals that venture into downtown areas

I'm so sorry for your loss! I'd be ticked, too, and looking for revenge. As for the imminent end of the racoon / coyote / cougar / whatever it is, just remember the first rule of firearms: know your target, and what's behind it

I hope you get the varmint -

Yeah, we were on our way back from Walmart a couple days ago, and had a black bear run across Main St. Granted, we live in the mountains, but it was noon on a weekday, and there was heavy traffic. You'd think the noise alone would keep it away. Guess not

Okay another question, I caught one. Should I leave the trap up a few more days and see if there were others? I honestly can't believe such a small coon did such major destruction. I could see it attacking the little chickens, but honestly Mei was pretty big.

Should I always assume there will be more?

If you have ever seen what a coon can do to a full grown 120lb dog????? It is not a pretty sight. Coons are a very dangerous animal. They are strong for their size and a male can be very aggressive all the times. Mamma more so when she has young about. When securing your coop, do not use staples. They will not hold. I use at least a two inch nail spaced about 2-3" apart on the Hardware Cloth. They cannot rip the Hardware cloth, but they can make mincemeat of the materials used to fasten it to the coop. I would even go so far as to fasten wood over top of the nails (Long Roofing nails hold well), putting the wood facing in with wood screws instead of nails. Hard to tear screws out of wood. I am sorry for you loss. I really hope you can nail the .......... thing.
