offshore fishing

oh yes, both forgot to follow up with that. Been bussy duck hunting, It came back in today. But wwe did OK, wasnt great, caught our reds really quick. Tried the trout, but they didnt want to bite for some reason. So we went off shore and got a few seas bass to kill the day. It was charter anyway with one of my bosses, captin buddies . Now they east coast one is with one of my captain buddies I've known for 25 years or so. He said the bite over there for the big ol gator trout is just unreal right now. Just waiting on him to call and say lets go. He's waiting on a perfect day weather, tide and moon wise for us. At 15 each in GA we should have a ton of them. He said he's been limiting out every time by noon. But they are hude, bunch over 27 inches. I can get into some of that. Will let you know for sure. Think we are looking toward the later part of the month for it. Nov- early Jan over there is always great on them. Good bull reds Oct and Nov too, but they are the bulls, way out of the slot limit. They tend to average 36-55 inches. You use 12 inch mullet for freakin bait for them.
The specks are picky sometimes thats happen to us, they just won't bite. Thats when you put on a live pin fish on and the gator trout will love it.

got blew out. This was the 3rd cancelation of it. First was for the big flood we got here a few weeks back, next was for 45 kts winds. and this one was for 25-30 kts winds all week which had the water too muddy to fish. Just got another flood this weekend so it's pushed back a bit further again now. Got to love it this time of year, cold front, rain, then wind... great for fishing haha... we'll get it in eventually, might change it to triple tail as late as it's getting. April's the month for them off Georgia anyway. I'll let you know once we ever get one in. I'm about to die to go, least it's turkey season now

Its been windy and wet here too. Need fish in the frezeer we are out.

tell me about it. I still have a few, but they are getting old, snapper from last Gulf season is about it, a little dolphin and wahoo too, but other than that, I'm tapped. Usually have about 2 freezers full. One all fish, the other deer and birds mixed with fish... just down to that meat freezer...

nice hoo! I wanted to go tomorrow for yellow fin and wahoo. Calling for 1 foot out 60. would of been perfect. My boat buddy sold his 31 cape horn this winter to get another one. They just found it, a 34 Yellowfin!! But havent finished the papers on it all yet, so I'm without boat!! Made me sick. Just dont get that kind of weather of Georgia too ofetn, especially this time of year.

Where'd you get the wahoo out of?

I caught that hoo from my Contender out of Wachapreague, VA. There's a funny story with it. When it hit, we all thought that it was a big tuna and nobody wanted to take the rod. Finally after some arguing, I gave in and took the rod. It's too early for offshore trolling here yet. We had a few large bluefin in January, but we won't get a steady pelagic bite until June. Til then we have to fish inshore starting now with the flounder and striper bite then moving into large reds and speckled trout around the last last week in April...

didnt want to catch the tuna....boy yall a bad shape crew sounds like, we fight over who gets the rod here haha. Guess it's like catching these darn 80 pound amber jacks though, after a few you're done with them.

Yep Late April - July is our best over all mixed bag stream time too. The bigger hoos and yellowfin are there now though, they tend to like it a bit cooler, 70-72 ish where the dolphin and blackfin like that 75+ water. I'm ready to go though... dont be scared to grab a rod!! Never know whats on the other end.
My wife did that on the bow one day while we were tower fishing the bottom. She's too little to handel the big bottom poles for pompano and jacks, so she flat lines live bait off the front. Had a screamer hit it once. After 30 min into it she was convinced a big amberjack had got it and want to hand it off... but before it was all over, she had 2 nice yellowfin and a big ol wahoo from doing that that day.
