Not really sure where to post this but here it goes!
A couple of days ago some of our free range game chickens went missing, this is to be expected because there are woods skirting our farm. At first it was only a few then they all seemed to be gone. We looked for them everywhere, still no sign. At this point we were beginning to get suspicious of thieves (human thieves). Well now thats a possibility, but I'm the type of person who always sees the good side of things. Maybe the person really needed some chickens..........

Any ways now all my free ranging games that we where either going to sell or harvest are gone ALONG WITH 3 new hampshire reds and one dutch roo and it gets even better. DD found about 5 feathers on the road which I am almost positive belonged to my dutch. These chickens could just be in the woods, I know but how would the chickens In a COMPLETELY CLOSED IN pen get out I wonder!?!
Doesn't that just burn you!!!!!!!!!

File a police report.

We lost 24 hens and our big Buff Orpington roo over a period of 3 weeks while our son was in the hospital.

We called the State Police and filed a report. It may not seem like much to some people, but the officer who came up for our report said they're seeing more and more poultry theft.

You may not be the only one missing chickens, and if there aren't others missing chickens, it'll make the community more aware, and possibly make it less easy for the two-footed predators.

Sorry about your losses. I know how you feel.

I had some chickens swiped a few years ago. They cut into my coop at night and snatched them. It feels so awful. I'm sorry you're dealing with this.

At least they took your report!! When ours were taken last year and we SAW the culprits, the deputy came out and asked if we caught the thieves :thun I was like, isn't that you're job???

I do agree that you should file a report with the police. People are stealing poultry and taking it to the sales to make a quick buck because no one asks for proof of ownership on poultry.

That stinks!

I had thought about locking the run door, but if someone wants my chickens badly enough all they have to do is either cut off the locks or cut through the fencing.

Put a lock on the coop. If they break in that is a different crime than just stealing chickens.

I agree, put a lock on it. We keep a lock on all of our out buildings, the coop, and our dog kennels. We have a couple of friends that work for local law enforcement agencies and they said that the theif will get a bigger fine and possible jail time for cutting locks. Good luck finding them.
