Just wondered. My runner has 4 eggs that were laid at different times. I can't candle worth a darn, so I'm relying on feel. Two of the eggs have activity but the oldest egg --nothing. Originally when I candled them, they all looked viable but now I wonder if the oldest egg (which was laid on June 24th) might have died in gestation? It even has a bit of an unpleasant smell. How long should I let it remain in the nest before pulling it? It has been a month.

If it's smelling I'd say it's not alive. and you risk it exploding and contaminating the other eggs. I'd candle again but it's probably not good.

Will candle and remove the bad smelling egg. But today, Sunday, at 3:30 pm my first egg hatched! What an experience that was; a real first for me. It is a mix breed duck, mother being a runner and father being a Khaki. I'm so excited!! It is sooo cute.
