Oh Chicken People

Moved the incubator and installed a fan. Temp good humitity still high adjusting with outside fan and vent holes seems to be running, and amount of water about 60% humity. Put eggs in yesturday. Turned turner on today. Incubator running much better in the bedroom than the basement. Had to remove some rails from the turner because of the fan i installed. Will not candel until day 7 and its going to be tough because the eggs are dark. Feeling like a mother hen. No once goes near the eggs you all hear me. Made extra plugs out of crayola model magic because my 4 year old misplaced the red plugs. This is my last try, really!

*had eggs in for about 24 hours before i turned on the turner(opps) but i heard some people do that.

arge! Well glad they made it safe at least

I am in Northern CA. I use LGs to incubate and one to hatch. I have an automatic turner which is a must with the LG. I don't have the fan kit. I put 1 teaspoon of water in the incubator, keep 1 plug in and 1 plug out. That keeps the humidity at 24%. On day 18 I move the eggs to my other LG for hatching, again no fan kit, then I fill the water containers. That moves the humidity up to 45% which is perfect.

My hatch rates are about 75 to 90%

I only add water to the incubator about once every month and it is running all the time since I hatch every week. I clean the hatcher as soon as the chicks are moved to the brooder that way it can get back up to temp for the next set going into lockdown. I add water to the hatcher each time I put new eggs in for lockdown. I am very careful about checking temp and humidity several times a day, just to make sure there is no fluctuations. My LGs are runnining constantly with no rest and are performing better than expected. I however will replace them every year.

I love my LGs. They were inexpensive compared to others and they have raised my hatch rate from 30 to 50% last year up to what they are this year.
