Oh Doris....

Doris the light Brahma is at it again. I have two broody hens (Bossy and Bernadette) and Doris has started crowding in on Bossy to lay her daily egg. She did so well for the first couple of days and laid her egg in a separate box, then today I found an extra egg under Bossy. I left the egg and marked it along with all the other eggs in both clutches. At least now I can collect Doris’ eggs. Sheesh.

That's normal. Doris is attempting to get Bossy to hatch and raise her offspring too. It seems to be an instinct in chickens to lay where other hens lay, or to add eggs to a broody's nest.
