Crazy Chicken Math
Thought I would share what happened:
As I was putting away my chickens and ducks as I do every night and doing my head count 3 or 4 times just to make sure I don't miss anyone of my 100 hens and 20 ducks my heart sank as I kept being off by one.
After counting at least 8-9 times I started to divide by breeds and soon discovered that my white crested black polish didn't put her self away tonight. This hen greets all my customers every day, she literally climbs the chain link fence like a latter to start the day with me and repeats to go to bed every night, but tonight she didn't make it in.
I had my flashlight in hand looking in every bush, tree, goat house, barn and in the fields of 9 acers that surrounds our place. My German Shepard girl and I crossed all 9 acers one step at a time listening to coyotes howling in the distance and me praying that I will find her.
As I am giving up hope and locking gates for the night I look down at the fall flower garden and see this little white head in the flowers. It was my little white crested black polish named Meshone, I reached down picked her up as she's telling me in that little chicken voice of hers " I was here the whole time sitting on my clutch of eggs"
I was so happy to have found her as I am telling her she scared the crap out of me and she made my heart sank when I couldn't find her.
Oh how those little feathered friends mean the world to me!
