Oh Migraines, how I hate thee...

Another site with the descriptions of all of the various types.
The very last one has the projectile vomiting.
I had the first one once and it scared the bajeebies out of me.

If nothing else, this lets other people know that we aren't just being a wimp.
They always made made father furious thinking that I was faking it, 'How could a headache hurt that much?'
except, I had them in my hips. So no one could comprehend.

Day 2.5 of a cluster

, and finally meds are kicking in. Just could not kick this one - things are looking up.

Have had migraines for years but it increased intensity in the last four years or so after having my daughter. Been finding out drinking Pepsi (I don't like pop allthat well except when I have my pizza) and bits of chocolate helps to lighten the pain but wont get rid of it.

I haven't vomited in more than ten years but it's the worst kind. However once that vomiting episode is over, you know you are on your way to get better.

Hugs to you all...the weather front moving in and I can feel it in my sinuses and eyes.

migranes SUCK i am constantly in pain from these... so far nothing helps, no narcotic anyways. i have a brain maformation, and i usally have a mild migrane every day with a severe one 1-2 times a weeks

sometimes if i soak in a HOT bath it helps... but otherwise, i have learned to deal with them and plug right along. make sure you are drinking enough water too!

hugs, be glad you dont deal with them every day like i do

Funny you should mention the weather front, as I am sure that yesterday's sinus headache triggered todays monster. Took my bp meds and soaked in the tub while waiting on my firocet to kick in.. I will survive the day, but my work will suffer.

I'm guessing that the front is what has had the impact on me too. Sourland loved the way that Fioricet worked, but given my addictive nature and the frequency with which I have headaches, my doctor stopped prescribing and suggested that I use other treatments.

(Edit: I know this is a long post, but if you suffer from Migraines, I implore you to read it all.)

I am not a doctor, nor do I imply any medical training. I just know what worked for me...Take this for what
you paid for it...

I don't know enough about Chickens to help others yet, but Migraines...That is a different story.

The first migraine that I can remember was at 9 years old. I am almost 50 now. Each year that
went by they became more frequent, and more painful. Three years ago I was taking somewhere
in the neighborhood of 10-12 Vicodin a day to "Manage" the pain. It would only make it so I could
function. I went through life as a Zombie. I have literally tried every Migraine treatment the Doctors
(20-30 Doctors over the years) Knew, had heard about, wanted to see if it would work...None of
them worked for more than a week or two. I have had 3 Sinus surgeries, 6 teeth removed (None of
which needed to be removed), Over 200 Botox injections, Wore a TMJ appliance for a while...

You name it, I tried it...The whole time the Migraines were growing in intensity and frequency.

The last "Big" migraine I had lasted for 33 days. I ended up in the ER twice during that time. My beliefs
preclude Suicide, or I would have taken that option several years ago...

One night while researching some new treatment/cure, I stumbled upon an article written by a Migraine
specialist that got tired of throwing drugs at his patients. So he decided to start with an even playing field.
He called all of his patients in and had them take extensive blood tests. Then brought them back to
bring all of their levels up to "Normal" range. (If they were low in Iron, he gave an Iron shot. If they were
low on Magnesium, Magnesium shot, an so on)...

The third patient that came in was in the middle of a full blown Migraine. He started administering the shots
to bring her up to Par...Thirty seconds after administering the Magnesium shot, her Migraine went away.
He thought this to be a coincidence. After 10-15 patients, he started noticing a pattern...they where all
Magnesium deficient. Some a little, some a lot. He started all his patients on Magnesium supplements.

After the first week, a very high percentage of his Patients were Migraine free...but the unwelcome side
effect of Magnesium (spending a lot of time in the bathroom) concerned them...He switched them to a
Time Released Magnesium and that problem went away...

Well after reading that, I thought...no way is it that simple. (Side note: I keep several Reef Aquariums.
The balance of Magnesium/Calcium/Alkalinity/Ph in the Human body, is comparable with that of the ocean.)
After thinking about it for a few minutes, and having a problem keeping Magnesium levels in my aquariums
high enough, I went and purchased a bottle of time-released Magnesium.

I was on day 32 of my 33 day Migraine. I had very little expectation that it would work, but at this point,
I had tried everything else, so why not.

On a scale of 1 to 10, my pain was a 8.5...I took (4) 250mg pills that night at about 7pm., another 3 with
breakfast, two more at lunch...The Migraine slowly subsided throughout the day...When I got home from work
at about 4:30pm...It was gone. This was the first time in years that I had been pain free.

Over the next few days, I kept waiting for the Migraines to come back. They didn't...and my life changed.
I lost weight as I was able to do more physically demanding things. My relationship with my family became
a lot better...life was worth living again.

That was 4 years ago. I have gone from 245lbs to 188. (I'm 6'1") I can out work people half my age. If I
forget to take the Magnesium, I get a slight headache to remind me...an hour after taking it, the headache
goes away.

Please, if you have Migraines...you owe it to yourself, and the ones that love you to try it. I have been trying
to "Spread the word" for 4 years now. Most people say "Oh, Interesting...I'll try that.", but I see them later
and they still haven't.

You cannot, as far as I know, overdose on Magnesium. If you take too much...you can catch up on your reading,
as you will have lots of time in the bathroom.

The body "Discards" any excess.

The product I use is called "Slo-Mag" and is available at Walmart, CVS, Longs Drugs. I am sure that you could
find a similar product in just about any Drug store. I take (2) 250mg pills, 3 times a day.

i am on a migrain regament
i take 3 mg of melatonen a night, a bata blocker, high blood presser meds and relapax all because i was having them 4 out of 7 days a week

but i here if you take melatonen 6 mg a night it dramasticly drops your chances of getting one..

oh i forgot i have to watch what i eat and keep a food diery of what i do so i can catch triggers.

I saw this post reserving migraines. I have suffered migraines for 20 years. I took numerous mess and midrin did give me some relief in the 90s before they pulled it off the market. I tried imitrex and it made me vomit. Last spring I was at work and started stumbling my words. I started driving home and called my fiance and I could not speak properly and I knew something was wrong. I drove to the er and lost feeling in my left side just blocks from arriving. Long story short they thought I was having a stroke. I was hospitalized for 4 days to get the migranes under control and was diagnosed with complex migranes. The Dr basically said my migraines present as stroke symptoms. I'm left with residual memory loss and concentration issues. I'm going to try and apply for ss as they are now saying the migraines are comparable to epilepsy. I've read they deny 2/3rd of all claims.
