Oh my am I angry.

Wow that is a great site! I may have to invest in a couple of those "cameras"... thanks!

And I really don't know if they would stoop to poison...but if they will trespass at night on my property just to let my birds go...who knows what they may do?

Oh, and I forgot to add.. the different dog bark thing makes perfect sense. I can absolutely tell the difference between "there's a squirrel" and "hey there is a guy in the yard" when my dogs give the alert. We won't even get into the bark for "OMG IT'S THE UPS TRUCK, OMG, OMG,OMG!!!!" that one is in a class all by itself!

I don't really have a friendly relationship with most of the neighbors...just never introduced ourselves at all so they do their thing, I do mine. They have complained about our dogs (several neighbors) back before we had chickens and our dogs were loose a lot. After the complaints, we took it seriously and our dogs are now contained 24/7 and no more dog complaints.

So, the rumor mill probably wouldn't go anywhere, but I was thinking of using the computer to make up a fake "area under camera surveillance" sign and laminate it at work and hang it somewhere obvious?

They are probably capable of all kinds of harm aimed at your chickens, I love American Science & Surplus, those cameras were my first purchase, and then I started getting their catalogs, they are a hoot! And you find some awesome stuff, those cameras work fantastic, and you can't beat that price for a motion detecting, blinking, realistic "surveillance camera."

I am so glad I invested .75 cents last weekend at a yard sale for a baby monitor (sound only) and it's set up in the coop. DH will be up most of the night with it tuned in...

Also leaving the bathroom window (closest window to the coop) open slightly so I can hear the dogs... sheesh.

Yeah but what's to stop someone really annoyed with them from putting something poisonous through the wire???

Nothing, but most people who sneak around instead of confronting someone about an issue will think twice if they think they might get caught on camera. I would make it impossible for them NOT to know that you will catch whoever/whatever is messing with your chickens.

I would hope they would not stoop so low. Maybe I would keep my babies locked up until some is their to watch them. I would also put an electric fence on the top of the fence. I know I have one of my gates wired hot. So when ignorant people become cripple stupid they get the light of their lives. I would also go tell them if they have issues with your babies they need to speak up. I do not tolerate stupid people. I'll try kindness first, THEN the creative action comes into play. I once had a guy climb my 6 ft fence to steal a GSP. I found him pinned to the ground by my big male GSM. Fargo was just holding him down until I got home. I told the man you are stupid to climb into a yard with huge dogs. I went and called my uncle to come and arrest him. I left the idiot their for my uncle to cart off.

If u lived close I'd give u a puppy

I tell you what, this makes me think I would hot wire the fence & load coarse salt in the shot gun. Put the chickens up, turn the fence on, wait for the yelling and cursing and fire in that direction.

I am normally a peaceable person, but tresspassers with malicious intent get my dander up.

Thanks guys for the suggestions and support. I was so tired before this happened and ready for bed but now my blood is boiling and I can't think of sleep, lol. My DH has his golf club sitting by his recliner, the curtains on our sliding glass door open, and is ready to leap outside at the first hint of trespassers, lol. He also has the baby monitor sitting by his leg turned on. Just more stress to deal with I guess.

but thanks again for the understanding!
