OH, My Goodness!!! Experienced Hatchers Please Help!!

Now I understand the lure of hatching. Whle I was marvelling over my five babies in the brooder, I heard a loud chirping coming from the bator. I don't see any pips yet but there is at least one egg rolling around- I can't see which one it is but I can hear it rocking on the wire.

This is beyond fun.

And I am such a big dork - I can't believe how something that was just born is walking around, drinking and eating. They are so adorable.

It's good to read a success story like this -- it really goes to show that it's not rocket science.

All our worrying about humidity, temperature, getting everything just perfect...and along comes a bunch that beat the odds and hatch with almost no help whatsoever (and a few glitches, too). Thanks for sharing!

Hatching isn't as fragile as some think. I happen to open my bator alot during pipping. I take them out as soon as they pop out, blow dry them, and stick them in the brooder....I do staggered hatches. I have great success unless the eggs were damaged in shipping...

Thanks for telling of your experience in detail.
I sure learned a LOT from this post. Most importantly, not to stew about what MIGHT happen in something goes wrong.

I just got my first 'bator Thursday and I've spent the last couple of days trying to get the temp/hum just perfect... calibrating the hygrometer(s)... I even put some store bought eggs in to check how it changed the humidity, etc. Totally stressing it and eggs won't even ship to me until Monday!

I scour the posts for other peoples' experiences and have convinced myself I'm insane and/or cruel for thinking I could possibly give these poor eggs a chance!

But now... I have hope again!!!

Thanks for so incredibly demonstrating that this is do-able even in less than ideal circumstances!!

there is still chirping in the bator. I had 15 olive eggers and so far 6 of them have hatched; and now maybe 7.

What a blessing.

Sounds like you had some very strong, tough little eggies. The breeder should be so proud. Some eggs seem to ship better than others, you are so lucky!!! Olive eggs are way cool.

You stopped turning them and they are still fine? you are lucky. i dont have that kind of luck when it comes to eggs...
They should be fine.
Best of luck!
