OH, My Goodness!!! Experienced Hatchers Please Help!!

Yay! Congratulations! I just hope mine hatch out. I'm on day 18 and oh my gosh I am so nervous! This is our first time hatching, and the kids are so excited! We started out with 12 and are down to 11.(I dropped one turning them on day 3)

I think 6 look good from candling them, but we will see. Crossing my fingers you get more Hikerchick!

I'm curious about when (what day) the power faiure occured and you "gave up". It sounds like after that the eggs had no added humidity other than what naturally occurs in your house and the eggs were no longer turned. Knowing about these details ought to encourage others who sometimes forget to add water or turn their eggs, that things can, and often do come out ok anyway.

dbcooper, I have found you!!

The power failure occurred on day 3. By all rights, these eggs should not have survived. I now have 7 little chicks in the brooder saying I am wrong.

Not that I am trying to encourage people to just stick their eggs in an incubator and forget about them for three weeks; it's just that sometimes you do everything right and the eggs still don't hatch; and sometimes you do everything wrong and they hatch anyway. A lot of the process really is out of your control. So people shouldnt' blame themselves for a bad hatch.

and also encourage them not to panic! so many times we are automatically feeling like, oh my gosh! the temp spiked for 10 minutes! i killed them! or we are pins and needles the whole time.

relax and enjoy the trying. and learn something while at it. this thread is very encouraging indeed!
