Oh my gosh. Just saw a hawk surveying my chicken coop...

Perhaps found you an answer....I shot a pic to a bird watching place and this is what was said...

"This is a quail of some sort. It doesn't look like a typical North American species, so it's probably escaped, either from a local bird fancier or a local hunting club."
 
Well I’ll be darned! Maybe the chickens didn’t like it cause they saw it as a competitor for their food and it was trying to get it cause i had just gave them treats when i saw it. Thank you so much.
 
I go home every day during my lunch hour to check on my chickens. They pretty much free range around the property. Hate to keep them cooped and netting over the top of my coops would be almost impossible...... but at lunch I feed all my chickens some bread, and then throw out some for my pair of crows that grew into 9 individuals. They have been a godsend for air predators. My Roosters have learned the crow alarms. It is amazing to watch two different types of birds work together.

Looked up red and black quail and it’s a Tennessee red bobwhite quail !

Good team work!
