Oh no! Could all of them be shrink wrapped? Should I help? HELP!!!

So, I have 13 eggs in the bator. Two externally pipped yesterday, one in the morning, one in the late evening. The one that pipped last night looks fine, he's almost done zipping. The other one pipped, and then didn't do anything else. After 24 hours, I decided to help, and I found it was shrink wrapped! Yes, I did open the incubator once yesterday because my stupid incubator will sometimes spike up to 108, and I was letting out some of the heat. But the hygometer never read below 50% for the maybe minute or so that the incubator was open. So, could the other eggs be shrink wrapped? I was hearing peeping yesterday from a few, and it's awfully quiet... funny, this happened on my last hatch too, and all the babies died because I didn't want to hurt anyone. Guess it's the incubator's fault... should I make a small hole in the large end of each egg to make sure nobody else is shrink wrapped???

I would! I checked on two of mine that had pipped but after no further progress I took them each out and opened a larger area where they had pipped. I did not touch the membrane though. On the advice of a friend I misted the eggs in the bator lightly when I opened it to help keep the humidity stable. Both my babies hatched within hours of helping a little. That's just my personal experience. I'm fairly new to hatching but have learned that I will not let one pip and sit with no progress after 24 hours.

i didnt think they could shrinkwrap if they havnt pipped? have they?

Thanks for replying! OK. If they are shrink wrapped, do I help them out all the way (there was quite a bit of blood with the baby I helped, but she looks fine) or just keep misting every few hours? Maybe lay a few damp paper towels nearby?

well i thought that if they dont have a hole they'll still have a lot of moisture? i also thought that they shrink wrapped because of the hole? like it became like a vacuum, thats why when my eggs pipped i wouldnt open the incubator until they were all out, only on the first hatch i opened it before, and one egg shrinkwrapped. i helped that little one out, it bled quite a lot, it was smaller than the others, and its beak didnt look normal. it then died a few weeks later.. so from that i havnt helped chicks out much after but thats just my opinion and beliefs i guess..

i would do the wet paper towel thing and see how that goes for now?

So, wet paper towels but no making holes in any eggs? Or maybe small holes and keep the paper towels? I really was excited about this hatch, and I don't want another dud hatch to happen.

Ugh. This is all the fault of my 30 year old incubator, aye? With it's cold spots and its temp spikes...

Alright! I will go right now and add some warm, damp paper towels, and wait a few hours to see what happens I'm hoping that now that we have one out, the others will follow suit. Its what happened with my broody.. one came out, and the other egg wasn't even pipped yet. An hour later, the other chick was hatched and ready for life! Thanks, everyone!
