Hey Phoebe I sent you a message! Eggs in the bator!!! how exciting!!!!

Regarding this hatch... it's my first... and currently on day 22 and officially day 23 at 10ish pm tonight. This is an older post I've been keeping up with... sorry to confuse anyone!

Newest posting & updates are at https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=107739

Regarding the question of what type of bator... I started with a 2ndhandstore skillet with glass lid... through day 19 (I think!)

Since the skillet bator wouldn't hold the HUM in the right range (because of necessity of the lid being sideways for air circulation etc) ... I started on a STYRObator ala Miss PRISSY's terrific instructions. The eggs are now in that! Had problems with the original Accurite going bad and HUM was through the roof... didn't think any would make it but at least 2 appear to be trying to hatch out.

Sorry my postings and updates on this hatch are spread out all over the place... when I had different questions I posted new threads to get responses that were more specific to my Current concerns..

Big thanks for all the well wishes!

My Accurite is a POS. It really is not accurite. And I start freaking out thinking my bator is failing and its just that darn thermometer. I have a glass thermometer in there which is reading 100 which is precisely what the bator (Genesis 1588) is set at. And then I also put the expensive one that my hubby got me from his work which reads water temperatures in pipes. It reads perfectly 100 too. So as long as those two are reading the same I'll be happy.

If you want the hummidity to go down, take some of the water out. If there are water drops landing on the eggs that is not good. You should not have but a small amount of fog on the window.
