Sorry, but i dont have any pics- but my one 16 day old chick, Mya, the top of her beak looks a little scratched and is turning brown. Ive noticed this with other chicks, though theres arnt scratched and there beak is turing a lighter brown. Also- Mya's belly (between her feet) does not have any fluff. Is she ok??? Im new to owning chicks, so I dont know if this is normal.....

They could just be changing, as the chick's grow older their feathers start to change, could be this way for the beak too. Mya's new feathers could be coming in so the fluff fall's out and her feathers will replace it.

Is it acting normal? Eating? Drinking? Pooping? We really need a picture... Each chick is different and beak color varies so much. Bald spots aren't always abnormal either. Have someone take a picture and post it out here.

You didn't tell us the type of bird - but beaks turning brown is very normal in many breeds. Also - loss of belly fluff at that age (and most other fluff too) is also normal.

The scratch could have come from anything - I wouldn't worry - beaks are similar to finger nails - when they get scratched up they will grow out - but if the cutical is damaged the bird may have a problem. This happens when nurseries trim beaks to prevent pecking injuries. They cut the beak to where it won't grow back.

I would say you have nothing to worry about.

As long as the birds have food & water you don't really have to do much else for them & they will be fine.

Thank you, and Im sorry- my camera currently dosnt work- oil or something was split all over it. She acting fine, doing all normal things, and she is an Americana or EE. Her beak scratch is reallly small, and looks like well- a scratch. Thank you again for your imputs
