You can always call up Monday morning and have them throw in a roo or 2. I have been getting two in case one dies. They wil generally do it without much fan fare, just a really annoying "You've got to be kidding me." attitude. I've done it.... twice.

I bred Buttercups for several years. I never lost one to the heat or cold. I live in East Texas where summer temps can get as high as 100 and winter temps drop below 32. They are not super flighty, but they aren't Cochins. If you raised them and handled them a lot, I'm sure that they would be calmer. I raised my original breeders with Salmon Faverolles and that seemed to help. As the birds got older and settled into their breeding pen they mellowed out a bit. But as youngsters they were real quick. As far as laying my hens did quite well. I would say one hen layed four to five eggs a week. Here are a few of mine.

*pat pat pat* there ya go... you'll be fine. *pat pat pat* I don't have any experience with them, but that note of panic in your text brought out my 'mother hen' instincts!

What I've read makes them seem interesting to me, so I'll LOVE to hear how things go and I'll bet lots of other people will too! Maybe I'll get a few in the spring!
