Before I begin this post- let me stress- I am not a complete and total idiot. Okay, great, now that I have that out of the way... I am a newbie in this chicken obsession. Started this spring with 11 babies- all hens... So for the past few weeks I have been admiring my beautiful Americana and how beautiful "she" is becoming....but how she "sure looks like a rooster!" I have had serious doubts about "her" and any seasoned or non-seasoned chicken would have know immediately that "she" was most certainly a he. I guess because I really wanted "her" to be a "she" I totally ignored the crazy long and curled tail feathers and simply brushed them off as "her" just being super fancy! Well, this morning, at 14 weeks old, "she" shattered my fancy Americana hen fantasy when I heard "her" crow for the first time. Over and over and over!!!! I knew it! I just didn't accept it because I never heard her crow. Guess my bedroom floor fan muffled the sound. I have sat several mornings on my back porch drinking coffee and never once did he crow until this morning. SOOOOOOO weird! So, now the question is do I keep him or not. I guess that is something I will have to answer on my own.
