Went out to check on the flock and do my head count for the night. Everyone was there like they should be. Thi is the time I check for mites, and injuries. I also give everyone some scritches and talk to them. Well I came to what I suspect is a little cockeral. He has been showing all the signs saddle feathers that are long and flowing, getting long tail feathers and just generally being cocky. I reached up to check him and he attacked. Pecking then trying to scrape me with his feet. I jerked his little rear up and turned him upside down then put him in a football hold under my arm. This is the chance to look for spurs. Yep he has teeny tiny spurs. So he has until he's big enough for freezer camp. He may be pretty but I won't have an aggressive bird. I then I checked the birds he came with out of the five I think 4 are cockerals. Grr and they are all nice looking birds. Will get some pics of the little terror tomorrow.

WHAT A BUMMER!

Yeah, but I wouldn't cull him yet. I have one little d'Anvers roo (see signature) who occasionally attacks me (just today, I was looking for a hen under the porch and he attacked the back of my head) but never hurts. I also have one that is a total jerk and attacks me all the time, he has got his own group of hens and hangs out away from this house now, so that is good. You never know, some roosters are really good, some are evil little sons of....

Unless you really want a rooster free flock, then go right ahead. Me, I needed to use up some good boy names!

I have a large gentle RIR roo that is around two years old. The only reason I would keep this one is for his coloring. He is part EE and God only knows what. So if he doesnt shape up hes lunch and his feathers are being used as hair highlights and earrings. The others are not so pretty but one is a cochin the other is a cochin/EE, and one is a black who knows. There is the OFF chance some may be spurred pullets as he did have a couple hens that were spurred. But this guy screams cockeral. If he calms down he can stay but if he keeps up the aggression hes fried.

I admire you, I'm not that tough. I think I have 10 roos now

He was 6 though. So sweet, his tail was 2 1/2 ft. long and his spurs were 3 inches. We got a new roo though and he was having a rough time. Oh, well though, he had a good life.

Please dont admire me. I hate killing them but I wont pass an aggressive roo on to someone else and I can't keep him if hes mean. I hate killing anything even for food. Hes going to get extra handling though because he IS beautiful. And I can see him passing his beauti off onto my chicks.
