I went outside to put the chickens up and noticed my little Shih tzu wasn't running around the pen like she has been doing. When I got down my stairs enough to see her, I could see what looked like a chicken body. Of course, I got her off the poor chicken and the chicken is still alive and able to walk. I guess she flew over the fence. I think she is my feisty leghorn who has been in charge. She was one of the first to try to get out of the brooder. I guess I am going to have to put bird netting on top of the run. Back to the chicken, I put her in the coop from the back, but then I noticed one of her sisters pecking on her already so I decided to bring her inside. I put her in one of the dog crates with puppy pads down and water and food. I also covered up the crate. I don't see any blood and like I said, I saw her walk. She is dirty, but I hate to bother her any more than I have to right now. She is just sitting quietly. It was funny though because the other birds were not happy she was gone. The were crying loudly. They did finally settle down. I think Lovey (my dog) had cornered her and was trying to play with her like she does her toys. I am hoping that when the hens are full grown, they will put my two little dogs in their place. They should be about the same size by then.
Does it sound like I did the right thing for my poor chicken?
