Taking care of the chicks today, one of the bricks that is on top of the "coop" we have the chicks in (the top has a mesh wire on it to protect them from our cats) fell into where the chicks are!
Horrible screaching! I was petrified! Upon further inspection, one chick got her foot hit.

Bloody and now purple, she is not using it with good cause. I have washed it and applied medicine to it. I have separated her into a separate holder inside the "coop" with the rest of the other chicks. I am horrified and disappointed in myself that I have hurt one of the babes......what else can I do? She can still be a chicken with only 1 foot right? Please help!

i know the feeling one of my rumpless chicks actually got stuck in their feeder overnight and i was so mad at myself because i didn't go check on them "one" more time before bed and my black blue andy has a cut on his toes from getting his nails caught on the metal flashing i used for the little ones brooder so the cardboard wouldn't get to hot because i didn't put the screen on the top of their brooder back on right and he escaped but he's fine and hopefully your little one will be too. i've found that chicks are amazing little creatures and are kinda like a timex watch they take a licking and keep on ticking

Is there anything else I should do? She is separated, with food and water, in the brooder so she can be warm. We have only had them a week! The bleeding has stopped and she is laying down. She is not walking on it right now but I don't blame her, I wouldn't either! Just keep an eye on her for now? Could this kill her? Gosh I hope not! I am sad enough!

Like I mentioned before I would suggest splinting it (well put a chick shoe on) (you have to do both feet so they can balance) even if it is not broken it will help relieve some of the pain (it's like wrapping your ankle when you sprain it).

My wife droped a short 2x4 on her little 2 week old silkie. She was 2 weeks ago.She laid down for 3 day she got up on one foot now you would never know she got hurt. She is walking on both feet. When it first happen I did not think she would ever make but she is doing great now.
