Oh no!!! What can happen in a week

I was away having surgery and recovering. Came home to find no one had collected eggs in a week!

3 nests full of eggs with one of them who may have had a broody hen on it. For how long I don't know.

To complicate matters further, ds who was on chicken detail, just came in with a basket full of warm poopy eggs.....

I don't know which ones came from the broody nest.

So I took them into the closet and tried to candle them. Eight out of the 30 or so eggs had large dark spots from what I can tell. These are Amaracauna dark green eggs and hard to really see anything. And I really couldn't see any vessels.

I had ds put the eight back under the hen, and will send ds out in a few hours to see if she is still setting.....

I still can't get around well enough to check things out for myself....

Im not even sure the other eggs will be okay for eating...

What do you think?

If I really do have a broody, should I start fresh, gathering today and tomorrows eggs and replace the old ones so I at least have a starting point?

If none of this makes sense, I apologize....I'm still a little loopy from the meds......

Throw`em all away and start over again. Or close your eyes and throw them all in the blender then cook them for your chickens.

Just throw them what if there are chicks in some? would you be okay with putting them in the blender?

I would crack them open first, and only use eggs, I'd have to have a proper burial for hte b abies......

after a good cry of course..

at 7 days there would be embryo's if they were incubated but they would be pretty small. I certainly would not blend them , I think I would candle them and any I was doubtfulla bout I would go give to a broody hen or put in a bator . I would feel afull killing babies.

Kimber your instincts are good, put the ones with blobs out and see if she's broody. You can either incubate the rest yourself or feed em to the dogs. If they're candling clear there probably isn't anything to see.

When I'm increasing the flock I incubate everything. When that's not an issue, really foul eggs, and the questionable go to the dogs.

There's not likely to be anything to worry about recognizing at a week.
