Oh Shoot , racoon and now a skunk :-(

Just keep nibbling away at it. Every catch is a problem solved. You are being proactive, taking care of things before they are a problem.

If the flock is attacked, and birds killed...thats a reactive position.

Great hearing of your successes.

If not too much of a problem, consider setting out 2 traps...takes care of the problem twice as fast. Just sayin....

I think I may get another trap, I'm definitely trying to protect my chickens. They rely on us and I don't want them feeling unprotected in their home.

We have not had a critter problem yet but I keep two live traps around the coop at all times. I don't have them baited just waiting for some curious critters if they are around.

Tractor Supply usually sells a group pack of the live traps. That's where I got mine and fairly cheap. Oh yeah I have caught 7 squirrels but let them go. I don't think they go after chickens since my chickens chase them away lol

Thanks, I may go to tractor supply today and get a couple more. We have lots of squirrels around here and yeah, if I caught one, I would let it go also. They are more of a nuisance than a threat. Trap was empty this morning. That darn skunk is sly. Or maybe it smells the "fear" from the coon and opossum on the trap and it stearing clear ;-)

We have a skunk in our neighborhood too.  Will they actually go after the chickens?  I have seen them chase after mice that the chickens attract.  Our neighbor feeds a barn cat.  Her food attracts the skunk too.
I lock my girls up at night.  My next purchase is going to be the automatic chicken door.

I didn't think they would go after chickens but after reading up, they will. Not to mention if , God forbid, it sprays their coop

. My roo can get a little "cocky" and I don't want him to get sprayed if it comes near. I was leaving the door open so they could come and go as they pleased into their run. Since the skunk was sited , I've been shutting their door when they go in at night and then , rise and shine early to let them out. I may have to look into the auto door though, I might actually get to sleep past 5:30am

Empty trap again. Good or bad, not sure. Maybe the skunk was just passing through the other night

I'm still keeping the trap out at night.
