Had my first "big" chick hurricane this evening!
I came into the brooder room and saw the chicks had turned over the waterer -- wet bedding everywhere!! This called for a deep cleaning, so I grabbed my 13 y/o son and used this as a teaching opportunity in the care of chickidee's. He did very well and really had fun scooping them up and inspecting for pasty butt
He then filled the feeders and waterers, helped me spread out new puppy pads w/ shredded paper on top. You know, I think they ate much less paper than shavings. The birds are getting pretty strong and growing big, with only 3-4 that didn't squirm vigorously when handled (none were harmed in the creation of this anecdote
)
Now the fun begins as they get healthy and act like chickens... COOL!!
