OH, WHAT DO I DO NOW?!!

That's good to hear. I also volunteer as a foster for my local shelter. Aside from myself, there are maybe only 1 or 2 other people around here who can, or will even try to handle abandoned newborn kittens. Most people want to foster dogs and puppies, and some want to (to a lesser degree) foster cats...but the smallest kittens, the 2-3 of us are it. I know what you're dealing with. Last Friday I was given a kitten who couldn't have been more than 2-3 days old. Everything seemed to be going well, with his taking (Fox Valley) formula, and doing his business. Then on Sunday night he took a sudden turn for the worse. He had started agonal breathing, so I called the shelter's on-call tech, and asked her to meet me at he shelter, to euthanize the little guy. I called her back to tell her never mind. I got to the shelter at about 10:55pm, and he passed away about 10 minutes later. I buried him in my backyard the next day, under a Pecan tree.

Aw that's so sad, my cats are rescue cats and all fab

I have an 11 month old kitten right now, who was my first bottle feeding foster kitten. I got him when he was about 3 days old, and wound up adopting him.

I really feel that people can be too quick to say cull, cull, cull to any animal that is born with some problems. No one really knows if the chick is suffering or not. I would give the chick a chance just like your instinct is telling you to do. There are plenty of chickens that have overcome horrible things. I am sorry people are so willing to kill it. You do what you feel is right.

Have you been taught how to tube feed? That is the scariest thing to do to such a tiny one. We also have tiny ones that we couldn't save and they are buried on our property. I want them close, not burned up in an incinerator.

Jjust in case you aren't aware, just because an animal doesn't show signs of pain or distress doesn't mean it its not in pain or distress, with many animals its a natural defense mechanism

I think she knows that. She just can't kill a baby chick so you've got to understand that. Don't mean to be rude, but some people have very soft hearts and just can't do that (like me and her). I think she knows what she's talking about.....sometimes you can just TELL that a animal isn't in pain.

I had a chicken with a crossbeak. Once every 3 weeks we trimmed it so she could eat half way decent. The chicken used kind of a scooping motion when it ate. Unfortunately a rooster pumped up on testosterone killed my cross beak girl. I have had to cull chicks before and it is not pleasant but necessary. I know what I would do with this disfigured chick but you know what they say: opinions are like @#!holes..Lol.. I am hoping for the best case scenario for this chick.
