I just joined up and was so thrilled to find this place. I have TONS of questions - I hope you all don't get sick of me!

I just found out yesterday that chances are really good I will be chosen as a pilot project site in my city - I'm in Edmonton Alberta where it's illegal to keep back yard hens, and belong to a group trying to get it legalized. If things work out I will be a chicken mama in spring 2010!!!! I am so excited. Anyway. So hi from the frozen north!!! I will now go and read everything I can and see how many of my questions can be answered without spamming you with new posts

Congratulations and welcome.

The search function is great but never be afraid to ask. Asking is a great way to confirm what you read. Just be ready for many different opinions.

Welcome! I was blown away when I found this site, too! Its a great group of animal lovers here.

I'm excited for you and the pilot project. Educating the public is so important. They reject it because they are afraid of the worst. I live in an area with many turkey farms where the birds are raised intensively........and it stinks. Of course it would when there's thousands of birds confined in small buildings. Backyard chicken is a whole different thing! Have fun learning!

So many of us (yes, me included) learned things the hard way, so its great that you are researching before getting the chickens!

When you're not researching chickens, check out the recipes! There's some awesome cooks here also.

Have fun!
