Hey you locals!

Just had my puffiest Cochin go broody, first time I've ever had a chicken go broody and would like to take advantage of it, my rooster is still a cockerell so he is of no help to me for this.

I live in the Orient/Mt sterling area - anyone in Columbus, london, circleville etc have 6-8 eggs I can buy from them that are likely fertile?  I'll take anything as long as they arn't too expensive and the rooster has been hard at work hehe.  Message me please!

Just wanted to point out that she may come out of broody if she gets a cold snap. My suggestion would be dont pay much for eggs and have a backup plan if she gets off the eggs. Ive had young silkies go broody this time of year and then get off the eggs right before hatch. Good luck.

Hi Avianman, I plan on having Buff Orpingtons. They seem perfect for me. They will be very spoiled. I would love to have a roster, but my neighbors would not like that to much.

Sorry so slow in responding. We are busy here. Two girls playing travel soccer, so we get to your neck of the woods rather frequently. I am still learning what to find where her, but finding it helpful, especially as our silkie was broody. She hatched a chick that we think is a silkie ameraucana cross. Anxious to see what it looks like mature.

Hi! We are up near Kiser Lake so not far from you. Not going to the Lucasville show but are going to the DeGraff Auction this coming Saturday. We have a flock of 6 SPRs but the kids are wanting some silkies so I thought we would try there. Hoping to find some quality, healthy and friendly birds there. I'd love to hear about Lucasville if you get a chance.

Hey ! Found a local who kept a rooster with his 10 hens, so he gave me the 9 eggs that he hadn't put in the refrigerator yet for 2 bucks. She started sitting on them today, cant wait for whatever will happen!

Where are you, where do you buy your feed from and what does it cost you?

I'm outside of Oregon, OH (which is East of Toledo)...like 5 miles south of Lake Erie. I don't have any chickens yet, and the only place I'd know to buy would be TSC.

See if there is any grain elevators near you. Most have feed stores. If you can find one.

We have a feed store here with good quality food, but they often run out of stock. TSC is where I end up going because of reliability. Of course, if all else fails you can mail order - its surprisingly cheap through some companies.

It does all depend on how much you want. 25# bags are almost too big for my flock, but it is difficult to find smaller.
