OK 19 weeks and still NO EGGS!!! GRRRR! **EDIT**(We HAVE EGGS NOW!!!!)

I have 23 BR's and they are a little over 24 weeks...and they haven't started laying yet either. I know that weather is a factor, but I live in Florida, and there isn't to drastic a climate change.

Diet makes a big difference in when they start to lay, as well as climate, breed, season, weather, etc.

As I've said many times before, they're live creatures, not alarm clocks, they don't have a set schedule of when they will mature. They'll lay when they're ready to lay.

I would like to hear from the keepers of hens who have started laying early, (i.e., before 30 weeks old, allowing for some breed disparity) what are you feeding them? In my experience, that makes more difference than anything else except breed.

My 3 mutts haven't started to lay but 2 of my brown leghorns have. I got my first 2 eggs yesterday

I just got my first couple of eggs. I used artificial light in the coop and some cayeene in the water and it worked for me. Plus I feed the layer mash and oyster shell and grit. Plus some random odds and ends including corn and black oil sunflower seeds.

Eggs are always smaller when your chickens first start laying. Not that bantam eggs will ever be huge, but they will definitely get much larger as time goes on. My mature Silkies lay small eggs, often even medium. It's surprising how big they are, for just a little birdie.

As cold as it is in Colorado and has overcast as it has been, I am not expecting any egg production out of my new ducks for a while. My females are around 1 year old. I have no idea what the previous owner fed them I know they aren't getting enough light since they spend all their time hiding in their hut :p

I am going to give them time to get acclimated to their new home, wait for the weather to warm up and give them plenty of nummy food. If they aren't laying by March..THEN I will start getting impatient.
