OK I am a little frustrated with my neighbors

Neighbors second dog has now joined the first at the pound! :|

A couple days ago when I had gone outside to feed the chickens/ducks, etc and when I turned around her she come up the driveway. And of course, neighbors weren't home as usual. I did knock on their door, no response.

So I said I am not messing with it. I called the Dog Warden and he picked her up at noon. He told me he kept the first dog for over a week and no one called for him or asked about him. Then some man came in and asked if he could buy him. Dog Warden said, YUP. So atleast I know Bandit got a new home. I am hoping for the same with this girl.

Not an hour later neighbor comes home. She never once looked for her dog.

That's depressing.

There are a few neighbors around here with dogs. No one EVER comes looking for them either. I catch them and tie them out front until someone walks or drives by and sees them. I can't risk them killing my birds or have my dogs kill them (because they would).
There's one dog, named Coal, who is here 4-5 times a month. At least the past 4 visits, his owner knows exactly where to come to find him, instead of us driving him back. She lives about 1/2 mile away.

I hope those hounds find nice loving homes!

You did good!

I can imagine how you feel. Unfortunately, this is incredibly common. The millions of dogs in pounds in this country is testament to that.

The saddest thing to me is the number of old dogs dumped at pounds, who have lived their entire lives with someone or a family, and when the dog becomes elderly and needs perhaps a little more attention and understanding, find themselves abandoned. It is heartbreaking.

We once befriended a dog which ran loose in our town. We occasionally contacted the owner, who was not at all concerned about her. When she became pregnant, we fed her and housed she and her puppies and finally had to take them to the pound. It was so difficult to do.

That is sad either way you go but...your birds are safe, the dog is getting care and now can find a new home. He sounds like he is very adoptable if he was friendly enough to pick up and move around like that.

I just want to say that I'm glad you took the dogs to the pound. They have a much better chance at a real happy life instead of being tied up and never getting any attention. I think it was awful that those poor dogs were left alone all day, every day. Dogs (possibly more than any other animal) NEED human interaction every day and lots of it.

And, people will disagree with me here I'm sure, but even if they ended up being put down at the shelter... I think that's better for a dog than to be completely ignored and tied up 24/7. That's inhumane and heartless.

Please don't pass judgement. Obviously we don't know the entire story, but let's take a moment to consider that maybe the reason that they're gone until late in the evening & didn't retrieve the dog may be economic. They could be working additional jobs trying to help ends meet. It is entirely possible that they just couldn't afford the fines levied by Animal Control. I work for our city government and that is becoming the case more and more. People having to make choices that aren't always pleasant.

I guess it did sound like I was passing judgement. I didn't mean to.

The neighbors and I have a friend in common, and I know when he comes home from work at 4 pm he goes straight to her house until 10 or 11 pm and visits with her and her DH and kids. Then when his DGF comes home he comes home. The dogs are there all day.

The female dog is now home, thanks to the mutual friend that we share. Apparantly she found out that she was at the pound and went and got her for them as a favor.

Poor dog has been yanking on her chain crying at their house all day.

Perhaps that going to the pound might have been a better alternative than staying with them. At least they would have had food and water and wouldn't have been chained up. Even if the pound didn't have a no-kill policy it sounds like they were dying a slow death under the circumstances. No animal should be subjected to that. :thun
