OK-I am officially very bad at this

I brought home my daughter's kindergarten classroom chickens, 6 of them. Four were roos. "Statistically speaking" we failed big time.

Since then though, I have gone to the feed store and purchased 4 more chickees from the "pullet palace". There is a 98% chance that they are pullets. And I got a 4 month old pullet that was obviously already sexed.

Awww poor wrong sex picking DG!

The only hope for you is to move in next to me. I'll take all your mistakes.

your story actually made me feel better.Thank you! (And sorry about your luck...better luck next time).

Why, you're welcome!

And -- it was the beginning of my chicken saga! I traded 3 of my VERY FINE, spoiled, hand-raised roosters for 4 pullets, 16 coturnix eggs, a pair of adult coturnix, and met a great new chicken friend. I sold some of the others, and the rest went to be the Bug Patrol on my sister's goat farm. So -- I've since raised, hatched, and bought a bunch of birds, love my poultry, and it was a great experience. I had the SWEETEST big ox roosters in the county! Oh, yeah...traded another for some Ameracauna pullets, and made some MORE great chicken friends....

i love my sex link hens.. we bought 4 st. run and 3 are roos.. and 4 sex link.. they turned out all girls.. they lay beautifully large brown eggs every day. and they are the sweetest birds.. think i will get more next spring. they started laying at 16 weeks too!

I feel your pain. Everyone around here laughs at me because I'm alway trying to rehome roosters! I finally gave up and ordered from My Pet Chicken. If these chicks end up being roos, I give up.

I have bought red-sexlink, and black sex-links, both are excellent layers of brown eggs...I have found their temperament to be good also. I ordered pullets, and thats what I got...you cant help but get it right because they can be sexed right away...with straight run, you are bound to get at least 50% of one and the other...could be more, could be less, but like i n your situation, you got the wrong % of the more....I like the way the red ones look, a brown color with lighter tones for trim, and lighter fluffy butts,,,I had a black one that has a lot of red too it, almost looks like a BCM...but its not, sure looks close though! I bought some sexlnked hatching eggs, and wouldnt you know 3 of 4 that hatched are boys! thats alright though, its beena while since we had a man around the coop...now we can hatch our own...good luck passing him on!

OH don't be bummed, you're not bad at this! - it's just luck of the draw! How about this: turn the luck back on itself! Next time, go for 'all roosters' ... maybe Murphy's law will still be with you and you'll get your hens

Otherwise, the sex-link might be a good way to go.
