Ok I have a question. What is the difference between a

"regular chicken" and a "bantam"? I mean isn't a bantam a chicken?

Really curiouse because I have a lady that wants to give me some on Monday. She said she just has to many chickens.

We are also picking someone elses chickens, they don't know what they are, this evening.

So what is the difference?

Bantams are the smaller version of a breed of chickens. They usually stay under 2 lbs whereas "regular" (aka standard or large fowl) chickens are around 5 or 6 lbs.

Oh. Is it ok to put them together or do we need to build a smaller coupe for the bantams?

I don't mind it and we have some material we can do it with. I don't want them harmed.

We also free range during the day. Will that be ok?

Our present Rhode Island Reds can get a bit territoral.

If you have bigger chickens that you think will pick on them then you should probably give them their own coop. If they grow up together they usually get along just fine. They will be fine free ranging, unless you have Silkies or Frizzles b/c they can't fly and attempt to get away from predators (although I still let mine out sometimes).

I will keep them seperate at night. All my girls can fly! And our cat seems to keep the pretador list very low. He sleeps next to the coupe and snuggles them when I let him in. They don't seem to understand why the cat wants to rest his head on them so I don't "let" him in to often.

I will go now and get busy on a smaller coupe.
