When I isolated my rooster Pepper from my 3 hens. He started crowing which he rarely does during the day. His best buddy Rosie is all upset. She's trying to figure out how to get in with him. It's sad. He can see and hear the others who came running to sit on my lap. Im guessing I need to be patient and distract the hen?

I didnt really see an issue for the isolation. Since he is isolated, he'll crow more. A happy rooster crows less. Theyll crow for any reason, but isolation will make them crow almost non stop.

Forgot to mention that the hens feel safer with a rooster around. That's why they crowd by him. They look to him for companionship, protection, finding food and some roosters even keep down fights between hens. We had a hen that thought she was king, so very domineering to the others. Our rooster, once he was of age, attacked her when she went after the smaller and weaker hens.

It looks like most of the advice on the other thread was to separate. How did you separate? Will he still be in the coop with them?
I have a cockerel and he is crazy and antagonizes the hens and the pullet he was hatched with, but my concern is how would he learn to be part of the flock if separated? When will you add him back in?
Most likely they will all settle down, but it will take time.

Hi! If you go to my lengthy post from yesterday in Why dont they hang out together??? I think its in "raising baby chicks". It explains some of my issues with my foundling little rooster.
A other way to separate him is to put him in a wire dog kennel. Then make sure hes in the center of where they like to congregate. This way, everyone is safe and hes still part of the flock. We did this with our two young ones and it worked really well.
