i bought 11 peacock eggs. which are in the incubator. but then someone gave me 3 full grown for $120 for the set of 3 (2 peahen and 1 peacock) i need to build a pen that is strong and durable as i live by the woods. any ideas??????????????

Before you make a decision on housing, you need to know what your possible predators are. Don't just count the ones that you see regularly, find out. If you give a general area, someone on here can probably help you. Climate will also play a part.

Good thinking Trefoil!
It looks like MNM is in southern Illinois, if anyone has experience with that neck of the woods and can comment on potential predators...

I do not keep mine penned unless they have just hatched all my birds free range, my pens are made of 6 X 10 foot chain link panels, covered in the smallest hardware cloth i could find and the top 4 foot and the top itself is covered with chicken wire cause my older birds like to walk on top of things and would tear bird netting down.
I have no predator problems , they are here but i run a pack of dogs here and they keep predators at bay

If you don't have dogs you can find a pretty good baby monitor at walmart that reach a signal 100 feet to a few 100 to your house just depends on how far your pen is from the house, but you may not get much sleep some nights the one i have picks up wildlife scrapping in the night as well as Fox's calling just to name a few i rarely use it unless i think there is an owl in the area then i give the owls a little light show.

don't bother my birds they are use to the noise.

Lots of good folks here to help you along have fun and share some photos of your Pretty's you got a very good deal on them, i get 150 for a trio of 1 year olds.

One of the guardians of the peas.

Make sure you have these meds on hand at all times, there are more that you will be told about but these two are real important one is a dewormer and the other is for what is known as blackhead, you will read about it here at some point if you come on here regular.

i have many imprented peas, i love them so but sometimes it is hard to get things done cause they think i need their help.

Some great ideas have already been recommended. When i bought my birds, they were small and in a smaller pen. I had to make the cage bigger twice!! the current size is almost 6 times larger than what i started with. It will be alot easier to just build a really big pen in the first place that they can grow into if you have the space. My breeding birds have about 80-90 square feet per bird they should have at least 70 i would say. So a trio would need at least 210 square feet total, and 11 full grown birds would need 770 square feet. You also have to plan for grow out pens for chicks if you plan on breeding.

great luck with your birds!
upload some pictures!

i was thinking about 18x18
8 feet by 18 feet inside pen
10 by 18 feet of an outside pen.

I'm in Northern Illinois, but pretty much the same stuff...

Not all inclusive but the bigger players off the top of my head, coyote, fox, raccoon, fox, weasel, mink, hawks and as you go south eagles and bobcats also consider wolves are starting to reclaim territory in Illinois... And lets not forget feral dogs and cats or even domestic dogs and cats...
