Ok, I think they're about ready???

There are 4 out so far. I'm no color expert, but I think she was a little unfaithful maybe. Out of the four, two look alike. Pearl I think. One looks like those two on the top, but light or white underneath. The other has the stripes down the head like the rest, but it's a real light grey. My 3 males are pearl, lavendar, and I think coral.. The hen is pied. I will post pics of the babies as soon as they are dry and picture worthy lol. This really shouldn't be this fun for me, but I can't help it.

How exciting.....So Happy for you....NEED PICS.....MORE PICS

LOL! Maybe she's just genetically diverse, and not a floozey, lol. Guineas can carry all kinds of recessive color genes in their backgrounds that show up in hatches... every once in a while both parents have the right genes to hatch out keets in new colors that you don't know they are carrying. Someone referred to it like breeding mutts, you never know what the pups will turn out like, but I kind of look at it more like breeding pure bred labs or cocker spaniels (just as an example)... the parents usually have different color genes in their background/breeding, so they end up with litters of pups consisting of more than 1 color.

Sounds like you have 2 pearls, a pied pearl grey (or maybe a royal purple) and a lavender so far

I'm happy you are getting cute keets AND having fun! Careful tho... it's addicting, lol.

That would be too awesome if they had some recessive colors. I would really enjoy diversity in the guinea flock. I saw one at a house a couple miles from me that had what looked like a purple and green sheen. It was awesome. I've never seen one like that before. I just checked and saw two more babies and 7 more pips from what I can see. I'm hoping for a bunch more by morning. I only ever see pearl, white, lavendar, pied and the occasional coral around here. I'd like to see more variety.

Here's the latest update. I started with 21 eggs and two were early quitters. Not even sure if they were even starters to begin with. So my focus was on the remaining 19. So far, 17 have hatched and are doing well. I cant see pips on the last two, but I will give them adequate time to hatch before I toss them. All the worrying paid off big, and you all have been real cool and so helpful hanging out with me here through my first hatch. Even if the last two don't hatch, I feel like this was more than I could've asked for, for my first stab at it. I got a good variety of colors and I can't wait to post pics so you all can help me know what they are lol. I'm going to give the last two a while to hatch before I move them to the brooder. As soon as I do, I will post pics! Thanks again to everyone, especially PeepsCA for the tips and support. Stand by for pics!

That's so great your hatch went so well! And I agree, 17 keets is a pretty good hatch rate for your very first time, good job!

I'll help you ID their colors as soon as you post pics

Ok, here are the pics. They aren't great, but I'm no great wildlife photographer though. They are too funny to watch and I swear I heard one making a soft little keet version of the "alarm call" lol.

Awwww, what an adorable hatch!!!

Those are great pics!

OK... I see a couple Lavenders, at least 1 Pied Lavender, several Pearl Greys, a couple Pied Pearl Greys, and I think the 2-tone tan keets are Buff Dundottes and 1 Pied Buff Dundotte! You might even have a couple Browns in there

Congrats Kyle, glad it went well for you

A quick update. One of the two eggs that were left hatched today. The other had no movement and just didn't look right, so I tossed it. Final numbers from my first hatch are 18 of 19 fertile eggs. I'm thrilled at the nice mix of colors. I do think I will try to find a local with more exotic colors and do some trading. I want a couple of purple, chocolate, and bronze guineas to add more diversity. I am already keeping an eye for where my hen is laying, and hope to collect again. They roam over about ten acres, so it's a daunting task to locate a nest. The temps here will not drop below 92 for the highs, and I'm nervous about the eggs going bad before I find them. Thanks again for the help everone. 18 babies, woo hoo!
