I will keep the faith. I just read that a dunk in a bucket is worth trying. Then I thought, hey little henny swimsuits and rubber ducky flotation devices...

Now I know the heat is getting to me.

I am in SW Washington and I recorded 104 Monday and 109 today. I have 2 fans in the coop that are on a timer and come on at 8 am and go off at 9 pm. I also wet down the run and the roof and ext walls of the coop to drop temp. So far we have been lucky and it has not affected laying, in fact we have gone from 9 a day to 13 Monday and 11 Tuesday. Not bad from 14 layers.

Okay. So letting the chickens stand around in puddles is okay for them, right? (Please say yes, because mine do that all day!)

Well the heat has kept my friend from finishing my coop and run which I had planned to have all of my chicks in by last weekend. So they are still in the backroom.

I couldn't get their makeshift water bottle back in, so I just set a large pan in the pen and kept refilling it all day. One of my EE's spent the better part of the day in the center of the water dish. She was born a little extra fuzzy and has a great layer of feathers now, so maybe she is retaining (Think down parka) the heat more than the others because they all seemed to be enjoying it.

We only got to about 90 today. But it was way to hot for me. Anything over 65 is hot in my book.

I lost a buff orpington and one of her chicks today because of the heat (I"m in Corvallis, OR)

I"m going to leave sprinklers on low tomorrow and put some frozen 2 liters out for redneck AC.
