OK... Male Duck with male problem......

I wasn't joking or being silly. KY was used daily in all the vet clinics at which I worked for use on thermometers. It's non-oily, water based, safe for internal use, and would help to moisturize the phallus if that's part of the issue of it not being able to return into the cavity.

I'm just trying to help the poster.

Actually waterfowl do. It's called a phallus, but not everyone is aware of the anatomical terminology for it. So they call it the next most polite or descriptive thing they can.

My first drake had phallus prostration. He was a Blue Swedish. I put him in a clean area with fresh water to swim in, tried to keep the phallus moist at all times hoping it would retract on its own, even tried to put in back in place, but it didn't work and got infected. I had to surgically remove it to prevent the infection from spreading systemically, which could become fatal. I believe the links previously posted explain the procedure. It was mentally very difficult to do, but I wanted to try to save him and it worked. He lived a very healthy & happy life. He was unable to reproduce, but that didn't stop him from trying...LOL.

If the phallus does not retract, watch for signs of infection or turning necrotic (black). If this happens you will need to remove it or the drake may not make it.
Hope this helped.
Good luck!

I'm sorry, but this is easily the funniest posting I've ever read on BYC. Why is it that someone mentions reproductive organs and we all revert to teenagers? Still, not making light of the situation because it sounds quite serious, but laughing my fool head off. Good luck with your poor boy's problem.

Thanks for all the reply's. I'll mark this as the number 11 on my "Things I'd never think I'd have to do" list. I removed whatever dead tissue was there. I coated with neosporin and try to "put it back in" a couple times. I'll see how he's doing tomorrow. He is walking a little better, but it keeps popping back out... Oh how I love ducks...

LOL Well you certainly have a good spirit about it! It took at least a week for my guy to retract fully. I think it was actually longer in time. Bless you for working on him though!

Yeah, animals generally make us deal with things that are..... well.... yeah.
