my drake bit the back of my Rouens neck in the pool pushed her head under water climbed on her back for like two seconds then jumped out of the pool
He’s been doing this lately but she’s never laid an egg yet

Mating practice. Unless you saw the penis. That you can’t miss if your looking. Mating usually starts before laying. And they do put their heads under water a lot but I haven’t had one drown yet. Just watch all your drakes don’t gang up that’s when drowning can occur.

Double and triple duck-burgers all the time here too. The two month old drakes have tried to climb on the older females already. They have not even developed their mature voice!

Mine are about 20 weeks give or take a week and so soon the Roens should be laying so I’m thinking the real deal should be happening soon but as miss Lydia inquired about I have not seen a penis lol

don't worry, I didn't see a penis at all on my first drake but I know he must have had one cause I've got 3 of his kids in my flock right now. He didn't have a drake feather either. He was also a real jerk!

They do not have to mate with a drake to lay eggs. Duck sex is rough. If you have more than one male, make sure they do not all gang up on one female and drown her.

It just means they are really mating which mean eggs won’t be far behind.
