These look typically scraggly to me. If they are eating fine, pooping well without paste-over, and are moving in and out of the heat at will, I'll bet they are doing fine and are just at that "yucky" stage.

Thanks everybody that is such a relief, they seem normal in everyother way. Just really scraggly and poofy at the same time. LOL Guess I don't need to hover over them all the time now! LOL Thanks again! Sandy

They are in the ugly duckling stage right now...you ought to see my spitzhauben chicks, they are UGLY! Matured feathers here and there and the top tuffs looked like some barber made a mistake on their mohawks.

They look fine!

Yeah my BC Marans went through the "Vulture" stage as we called it. I told all my friends about my cute baby chicks and of course everyone decided to come see them during week 3. When they were not so cute. I am a worrier too. I am learning that the little buggers are pretty hardy!

They will be fine!! It is so nice to have this website though where you can ask questions!

Seems like i was worrying about the wrong chicks, When I left for work last night all my new little babies that hatched on the 24th and i recieved the next day were fine, when I got home this morning I found one of the babies dead ! It was either one of the black Sex links or one of the barred rock chicks, I don't know what happened? she was eating and drinking, she didn't appear to be pecked on! I just don't know!no apparent injury, she just passed on, did I do something wrong? The heat lamp was still on, the dogs were still penned in the livingroom, the cat was outside and the ferrets were in there cage! They had food and water, All the others seem to be fine (as yet)

sorry about your chick. I'm new also but i think some chicks just don't make it. Doesn't sound like anything you did so don't beat yourself up. I would keep an eye on the others for symptoms but sounds like your doing everything right. Good Luck
