OK My Homemade Cabinet Incubator is finished!!! ( PIC HEAVY )

Good points all, I have thought about all of these, as for the hatching drawer and droppings I think with the drawer liners that this solved this minimal problem. If I had inverted the cabinet it would have required a almost complete overhaul, so then it would have been better to just reconstruct an entirely new cabinet from scratch, which I was trying to avoid.

What I am planning as an upgrade is, I am on the lookout for a damaged three drawer base and just add it to the side of the existing cabinet and have a matched set of Incubator /hatcher/brooder. That would then really increase capacity by a ginormous amount LOL, not quite ready for that many chicks. to be honest I was just really playing around with the incubator idea and just kinda whipped this up over a short weekend.

OH OH one more idea! What about a removable screen for the top of the drawer, I have chickes that like to jump over the edge of ANYTHING. that would keep them in until you decided to take them out! Maybe a hinged screen or something.

Just thoughts (enabling thoughts!)

I have been doing way to much reading and I think that I am going to try the drier hatch method. the whole idea of trying to mimick the hens body and setting habits is very compelling. so I have lowered my humidity by 15% to just under 40% humidity. we will see.

I love this incubator and would like to make one similar... only with a smaller cabinet. Just wondered... are you still using this? Did your hatch turn out well? Has anyone else build one based on this design and if so did it do well for you?

Thanks

Yes I am still using it as my main Incubator, my hatches have been very good. There have been a small army who have pm'd me with Q's about this bator so I am sure there will be some spinoffs of this design. I do not know of anybody who has successfully built one yet though.

Someday DH WILL make me one of these along with a hatcher cabinet. We are remodeling our house so right now we have other things to build BUT this house has a kitchen downstairs that we are going to be pulling out. It has nice cabinets but we really don't need 2 kitchens SO I will have many cabinets to pick from for a bator and hatcher.

al6517 yours looks so nice. Nice job. After getting to use it, if you could change anything about it what would you do? Would you do anything differently?

What have you people done to me???
First, I say I want a couple of chickens. A Couple! I get on here so I can learn from people who know better. Chickens come in at the feed store and I come home with 5. FIVE? What happened to a couple? Get another one from the feed store because he was so cute...Now I've got 25 cockerells on order!
I don't even have chickens LAYING eggs, much less hatching and now I want to build an incubator??
