Years ago,as a child, I had a roo to do this same thing. He was hand raised also....but eventually it turned into a white tennis shoe fetish! No one could go outside with a pair on. (Free ranged) We had to beat him off us and everyone else with a broom. It just made it worse and him even meaner!! The only thing that helped was giving him a pair of white shoes to live with him by the barn. We eventually had to rehome him...and his favorite white shoes. My family still talks about this and it is 25 years later.
My Bantam OE does that-- but all he does is perch-- he perches on my shoulder and/or head if I'm standing-- and pulls at my pantleg if I ignore him...
And sorry, but the old belief that Roo's all get mean is pretty outdated....
It depends on the individual bird, it's breed, and how they are raised.... some are mean no matter what due to the breed and individual temperment of the bird, others mellow as they get older, and some are big babies their entire life....
