One of my salmon faverolles didn't come out of the coop today, so I went to check and she was just sitting in the corner. So I picked her up and she walked away gingerly but did walk away... tail up seeming alert... her steps are easy and slow, but steady, you know... so I figured she was probably egg bound. So we brought her inside and soaked her in a warm Epsom salt bath. And I gloved up and felt around and unless there is an egg shaped appendage just inside a chickens rear then I'm assuming there is an egg stuck. I've been soaking and massaging her. She will drink but not eat. She can poo but only directly after my gloved finger leaves her behind. She still seems energetic but very calm. Not acting sleepy, just not right. Comb looks good. Tail is still up...I allowed some oyster shells to soak in acv because I don't have any liquid calcium, or even tums...I put petroleum jelly all around her vent and I'm thinking really hard about giving her a glycerin suppository. Would that be a bad idea?
Let me know.
Oh this girls egg laying has been spotty lately but the last egg she laid looked like she had started to re shell it. As in there was a normal egg then around that egg was another inner membrane... so... that was strange...haven't gotten an egg since the weird one that I know of, but she is also a chronic egg hider.

When she does poo it's really runny well the last one was sort of gelatinous and clear like egg white with a little white poo stuff and a chunk of green. I'm now worried that perhaps the go had broken in there...The egg, or what feels to me like an egg, feels like it is maybe 1/2 an inch in or so... I am also not feeling shell. More like egg shaped thing inside a sock made of skin

Now she's just standing around. Tail up looking spiffy...just standing there. No panting...nothing

Ok. I've been incubating some of the last eggs this hen laid before she stopped 3 weeks ago, the eggs are set to go into lock down tomorrow so I figured I would candle them tonight. Even though I just candled 3 days ago. There were 6 late quitters which is a lot since before I've only had one late quitter around day 10 and these quit around day 14 or 15, but unlike any other time a few of these eggs were not so fresh and had been refrigerated, and one of those late quitters belonged to this hen (I don't know if it was an old refrigerated egg or not) so I cracked it open to see what went wrong and the chick inside had one eye, exposed brain where the other eye should be, scissor beak, it's organs were exposed, and it had 4 legs.. it appears that although it was a single yolked egg it tried to become identical twins but didn't quite make the split. It has 2 butts, 2 wings, one eye, 4 legs, and exposed organs and a scissor beak...could there be something wrong with her that made her lay an egg filed with a mutant? !

I wonder if she's got cancer of the reproductive organs?

Sorry I hadn't seen this yet...I didn't realize the hen that laid that egg was having laying problems.

I've read that ACV+hot weather=more difficulty with calcium uptake or something like that......

Sorry about your hen. If it were me, I'd get that egg out, spoil her rotten for a day then say good bye before she declines. I may be wrong and jumping to conclusions that need not be made.
Waiting to hear from others their perspective.

I suspect something wrong with the ova itself. Perhaps the cancer has thanked the information inside the egg (could be the sperm, but really, you can clearly see she's having an issue)

Anyway, I don't suspect conjoined twins, because then it would at least have one whole face, right?

I only gave her acv today when I realized she wasn't not laying on purpose...lol she just kept hanging out on the nest. And really I should have thought about it, but one evening last week she slept in the nest boxes.
