I have had five eggs total over the last two weeks---alot of you here shared my glee--anyhoo--today there was one mushy, no shell, perfectly perfect in the inside egg. I am feeding them calcium but is this just a fluke? One of the previous 5 had a thin shell that had some translucency to it--is she just having trouble getting it together? the other eggs (I think from a different pullet) are gorgeous and double yolkers with strong shells.......

Their egg production machinery is just sorting it all out, most likely. Most everyone gets an odd egg or two at times, especially when they are just getting started. I have 4 hens who've been laying for well over a year. I've seen exactly two soft shell eggs.
