ok pet rescuers!! Need your help!! :D

I would definately get her to the vet as soon as possible for testing, vaccinations and a pediatric spay/neuter. The vet can also recommend a flea preventative, groom/bathe it and trim it's nails.

I would then get her on a high quality canned cat food such as Innova Evo, Evangers, Fromm, Wellness (Core only, not the original), Solid Gold, Feladie, etc. Also, make sure she has a nice, non-clay based litter. Young kittens and recent spays don't do well with clay litter.

Good luck to you and your new kitten.

She kept waking us up last night. It seems like she is used to being awake at night to be alert for predators(?) When I was younger, my parents took our pets to the vet, but I didn't really pay attention to what all they did. Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know a rough estimate of how much this first vet bill will run? I've got to budget it in, it sounds very expensive. Hopefully it's not. She's very sweet and pretty tolerant of the kids. It seems like she is really thankful that she is here, and she purrs all of the time. I'm going to hate to giver her up if she belongs to someone. Going to find that out before I take her to the vet.

Rabies, Distemper shots are around $20-30 total

Fel. Leukemia test can be around $20.00
Office visit around $20.00

Worm medicine around $6.00-$10.00

The first visit might cost around $80-$90.00 depending on who you go to. My vet was expensive, so I switched.

How much it will cost will vary from your location and different hospitals. Call around and get some price quotes. Most hospitals offer a kitten package, so you get everything for a reduced price. Just remember that sometimes you get what you pay for, so the very cheapest might not be the best.

If you're concerned about money, I would take her to the vet the first time to get her throughly checked, then after that you can try to find some vaccine clinics to do her boosters.

I need to come to your vet! All the vets here are so expensive. Office visits range from $40-50 minimum; Leukemia tests $45, vaccines $25-$30 each and worm medicine starts at $10 a pill! Add in a spay for $400 or a neuter for $180. It's crazy.

Those prices are outrageous! Spaying here is $100.00. I order my tapeworm pills from a place in Australia. It is very cheap there. And it is the same ingreadents in it as the pills from the vets.

If your budget is tight, you can look around for a low cost spay and neuter clinic (they also ususally do routine vaccinations). I'm not sure if such places are set up for diagnostics (checking for disease), so you might still need a regular vet for that. Do check around. A few phone calls might save you a lot of money.

Thank you for doing right by this little kitty.

OKAY, we got my kitten from a far..similar circumstances when he was 4 weeks old, his mother abandonned him. ANYWAY, you should give her goatsmilk, not in a bottle because if she's eating kibble she's probably already weaned, just put it on a plate. The goats milk will act as the mothers milk, and keep her healthy. Another thing, to get her potty trained get a large carboard box, probably like a moving box, something she cant climb out of, on one side put some sand, or kitty litter, and the other a little bit of towel for a bed, plus her food and water. Cats dont like to go where they sleep, she should start using the litter area in a few days. You'll want to deworm her, we use strongid T, but you have to get that from the vet, as well give her a flea treatment, just the crap from the petstore should work for a tiny kitten, it's the oil kind, and rub it between her shoulders, it comes in three steps.

Ps, with the goats milk, and dewormer she'll probably have runny poop for a few days, oh and you need to look out for a vet that uses Strongid T, this stuff is god-like for wormers, it's ordinarily used as a livestock wormer I believe...but we use it for our cat and 4 dogs, plus the puppies, it's just a TEENY WEENY dose you have to give them.
