Chicken Country, U S A
So last weekend, my setting of 7 eggs hatched and the next day, 6/7 died.
I think they didnt get enough water in time, but not sure.
The survivor is thriving with the rest of the flock now.

Yesterday, the 2nd wave started pipping, this morning 1 chick is out and 5 are pipped and 2 more starting to zip.

Lets see if I cant get these guys to live this time, I was very disappointed last week.

Please wish me luck everyone!

Ps- my camera has dead batt and charger broke, so no vids, sorry.

Pss- the chick that is out now has no white spot on its head, the ones last week some had spots some didnt.
I think I have gotten sex-linked chicks but not sure, hopefully this non-spotted will be a hen!

Well, not that anybody cares, but they all hatched and are looking good.
I got 4 all black chicks, one chipmunk-lookin chick, and one thats black with a white spot on the head.
They seem strong and Im gonna leave them in the bator for tonight and then put them in the brooder in the morning with my surviving weekold chick and another small chick to show them the ropes.

Something else amazing is happening tho, I have another batch that is gonna hopefully hatch this coming weekend!
I was given a handful of eggs from some huge show-quality black australorps.
I set them on 3-27, and they showed clear at each candling I did, but I stopped candling them last saturday after my 1st hatch.
I thought they were no good for sure as I saw no signs of life . . . I left them in for balance for the egg-turner . . .

Well, after tonights hatch, which I thought was the last, I decided to kinda tidy up the bator, in prep for some quails eggs . . .
I thought Id candle the eggs, just for $h!ts and giggles . . .
Good thing I did, because 5 of the 7 are showing strong, kickin chicks developing!!!

So, I dearly hope this last batch hatches, because those australorps were so enormous, they made a jersey giant look small!
Seeing those BAs a few weeks ago really showed me the difference between hatchery and breeder chickens.
Im not saying I want some show-winning chicken, I just want a REALLY BIG one!

But at least todays new chicks are looking good, no panting and very active.
I just have this strange feeling that the 4 that are all black are gonna be hens, and the spotted is a rooster.
The chipmunk I have no guess or prediction, but its definately the cutest one, and the smallest/last to hatch.

I am almost tempted to take them to work with me tomoro, just to make sure they stay good.
I might just do that, my work is cool like that!

So, Gnite everbody, its been a great day and I have beautiful new chicks and prospects for 1 more batch!

That's great! I'm so glad this hatch went well after the losses of your first one.

for the BA's!

Thanks everybody!
The new chicks are all in the brooder now and still look absolutely great!
I have to go back to work today after 2 weeks off, and I know Imma worry all day.
Hopefully I come home to some live chickies today!
Wish me luck!

I still cant believe the australorp eggs are good, Im so excited about that.
Tho it does screw up my plans for the quail . . .
