It looks like Ameraucana, or one of it's parents is Ameraucana. If the previous owner said Maran, perhaps it is a cross, which would explain the beard. If so, it will be called an Olive Egger.

But, I am no expert.

I think it is a pullet.

He is an Olive Egger. I got several eggs from a breeder in Illinois and hatched 5 2 male 3 female and 3 look just like yours (more on the Amaracauna side) and it sure looks like a boy to me.. and he is half French Copper Maran and Half Amaracauna. I am by no means an expert, just looks a lot like mine..He is very handsome!

IF it is part Marans, it didn't appear to get any feather-legs.

It's EE or Olive Egger (as the others said, Marans x EE). I had one that turned out to be a boy so no olive eggs for me. He came from a good breeder, was thrown in as a freebee. He had really-feathered legs like the pure Marans I got also have.

Out of curiosity, did you get this chick from a breeder in CA? If so, can you PM me?

Some look like the marans some like the Amaracaunas, luckily I got a few ladies with pea coombs to give me some green eggs.
