Does the thermometer use batteries? Maybe they need to be replaced?
I read somewhere that you can check a thermometer by putting it in a glass of chipped ice and keep stirring the probe around in the ice...it should read very close to 32 degrees.

What color is your water wiggler? I have also read that certain colors absorb the heat more.
