My dad said that he was told by someone who keeps chickens that you aren’t supposed to use the first batch of eggs your chickens lay. I have found literally no info to back this up. Is this true? My girls won’t be laying until like end of August or beginning of September but I genuinely need to know this now lol.

No, you can use them! The person probably meant, ‘you can’t INCUBATE the first batch.’ Which is true, hatch rates will not be good. But you can definitely eat them! I assume when you say use, you mean eat, so correct me if I’m wrong.

No it’s not true lol sometimes you will get weird eggs in the beginning, like maybe misshapen, or shell less, or double yolkers or weird stuff like that when they first start laying and they’re also super small at first so maybe that’s what they meant? But they are perfectly safe to eat!!! There’s nothing wrong with them.

True! I wouldn’t incubate pullet eggs but they’re fine for eating.
