OK, this time my goat kidded. PICS!

Really... hum.... I've heard that sometimes they don't get along with dogs. Now, do they eat your lawn or leave it alone? I'm assuming that "wethered" is like gelding a horse?
I have three dogs... One is a corgi so I'm not concerned about her, my black lab can be out with the chickens so I'm not worried about him, either. But my chocolate lab is the one I'm worried about. He appears to be dumb and too lazy to go after anything, but he is the ONLY dog I've ever seen to go after a horse. My mare has kicked him square in the mouth so many times that he is missing a front tooth.

He doesn't just run and chase them, either. He full on attacks them (or tries to anyway).
Maybe I'm not meant to have a goat.

I think most of it depends on your dog if their going to get along or not. They will eat bushes before your grass, so if you have nice landscaping it is better to have a separate pen for them. They are very good at keeping blackberry bushes under control. I know several people that keep their's with dogs, and even house train them, and keep them inside!

A couple of questions on these goats. How often do you trim their hooves, is it similar to horses. I mentioned getting a goat to dh and he just gave me that look, like you have got to be kidding me(haha). Then he said i would not mind the kind we can get milk from. Which are the ones you can get milk from for like making fudge and cheese? I heard a friend mention nubians before about buying them for milk. I would have to expand the barn a little, so it's just in the thinking phase.

When I was a child, I had two goats that I had for 8 years and never trimmed their hooves because the ground was so hard they wore them down on their own. Now I trim their hooves once every 3-4 months. You can do it yourself, they make special trimmers just for goats. Just cut off any ragged edges, it's not nearly has hard as doing a horse's. If you want a small goat for milking, then go with Nigerian Dwarves. They won't require as much space, you might not even have to expand your barn at all. Nubians are good, but are larger. There are also Alpine, Toggenburg, Saanen, LaManchas, and Oberhaslis.

Thanks The BigWRanch!

Thanks for the information. We have been trying to figure out what kind of animal to help our granddaughter raise besides the chickens. These goats pygmies or the nigerians either one would be perfect. OK, Now I have even more to learn about. Well they say knowledge keeps you young!

I have one Pygmy buck that was born last August and is for sale, he is super sweet because he was bottle feed! He would make a great pet, and also has good blood lines, so would make a great stud buck. I'll also have more babies in the future, so let me know if your ever interested. They are definitely good pets for kids!

WOW! They are so cute! My daughter said "oooh mommy lool at the pretty lady with the puppies can we have one?"

I would love to get one but it will have to wait untill we get further out of town. My neighbors put up with ALOT but that might just be the straw! Sigh!

I have Dwarf Nigerians...and I love them to death. They are so sweet and so much fun. I am getting a little doe this spring. I highly recommend them. They are no trouble, but they will eat your landscape. I live in Kansas, not many rocks, so I trim my goats hooves every 6 weeks or so. The other evening I was out digging in my garden and the goats and chickens were all out with me helping. There is nothing better. The Nigerians small size makes them very easy to handle too. And when I step outside they come running....I think they are as good as dogs...better even, they give you fertilizer.:lovejavascript:insert_text('
