Ok tiny Rant?

If you can show up on my door step with that info I have a few chicks for you also (maybe roosters you never know) I would offer you a chair and a cup of coffee we could talk chickens but that means you would have to let my dog sit in your lap.

I agree! I think it's handy to have location, even if it's just a county or basic N/W/E/S [state] so we know where everyone is coming from for the sake of providing helpful information. I know the predators, climate, feed costs, and so on are different depending on where in the world you are. Certainly someone in Florida is not going to have the same issues with chicken keeping as someone in Alaska, and that's just within one country, not to mention the whole world!

Also, it is nice to connect with other chicken lovers who are local. I've made some awesome friends through this forum, and thusfar have not gained any creepy stalkers. (Seriously, what creepy stalkers hang out on a chicken forum of all places? I guess it's possible, but...

) If people are buying/selling/trading, it's especially nice to know where people are located, and if someone needs help, sometimes an in-person visit and in-person help are just what they need. Also, to arrange gatherings! There are a lot of reasons to disclose basic location, even if it's not terribly specific.

On a related note, I've seen people attempting to buy/sell/trade on here without listing any sort of location, and even saying pick up only! Kind of hard to say if you're interested if you don't know if you're ten minutes away or a days' worth of plane-riding.

It's in November so save your pennies. It is so worth going if there is a seminar that you can use. They haven't locked down all the speakers yet so perhaps you've got something you can do. The ALBC is a worthwhile organization IMO.

I'm brand new at this and though I cannot offer any help/advice on what to do with sick chickens posts like "PLEASE HELP!! MY CHICKEN IS SICK!!!" drive me bonkers! I mean, can ANYONE help in that matter? Details people!! Details!
