OK to move 5 wk olds into big girl coop?

Hello:
Novice, first time chicken keeper wondering if moving 4 or 5 week old chicks to the big girl coop is OK. I plan to keep them inside the coop for 2 more weeks before I let them out into the run (which technically isn't built yet). The temps during the day are climbing into the mid to high 70s and low 80s at this point - with a warmer light for the night? They are currently in a dog crate fashioned into a brooder in my pantry. Thanks.

Redrose - mama to 5yr old twins, 3 yr old Jindo, 2 cats, 10 chickens (breeds unknown - will ask for help with that later and not sexed).

I think as long as their in side and you have light for them at night they should do alright. They should be fine once they get 6 weeks old to be with out heat unless it gets real cold.

I put my 2 chciks out by themselves in the coop at 4 weeks. A few days later we got 20 more chickens. 8 big ones and 12 chicks. They all did very well

Worried mother hen here just moved my 7 - 8 week old chicks out in the big coop with my 10 older hens & silkie rooster. They do have an area set up where they can get away from the older hens but still hope they don't get hen pecked to death.

My Question are they too young to mix with my older hens?

I put my chicks out in the coop (separated brooder) the day after I get them. They have a heat lamp and their food and water (small so they can't drown). I'm not sure why so many people keep their chicks out of the coop for so long but as long as they have what they need, then you're good to go. As for letting them out in the run, I usually wait until they're feathered and big enough not to get lost, wedged or into trouble.

I wanted until my chicks were 4 months. Then they will be large enough to defend themselves. Even then the fighting may go on for a week or so.

I chickened out and at 11 pm went out & put my 8 week old chicks back into the small coop. Will wait a few more weeks before putting them back with the larger/older hens. Think they will do better at 12 weeks.
