Hmmmmmm...
I have a closed composter (one of those black thingies) that sets smack dab in the center of my run(run is huge) Most of what is in it is from using the deep litter method in my coop and the bigger piles of poo under the roost.
As I stated in another thread, I just fling the stuff from my garden into the run for the chickens to take care off. The whole run (whole yard actually) slopes to the back corner where the coop is and down into a gulley. Eventually all the poo, garden leftovers, scratched up dirt, etc makes it's way to the corner of run. I then scoop up shovels of it and let it compost even more over winter to put in my garden the following year. My tomato plants are 8 foot high!!! Forget Miracle Grow!!
That all said, I haven't had any problems with a compost bin being in my run. It's been there for 2 years
